For native Californians, winters in California might not seem like a big deal. In fact, it’s completely normal to be able to go to the beach one weekend, then switch gears and ski or snowboard the next.
But, for those who don’t have the luxury of just driving throughout California year-round, here are some reasons you should consider visiting. All in all, California is the best place to take a winter vacation.
California gives options.
With incredible weather comes countless options, making California the state to visit if you need options. For many, higher altitudes in Yosemite National Park, Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park are the places to go, especially when in search of snow. But for those who are trying to escape from the cold, snowy climates, Central and Southern California will serve you well.
Places to Visit While in California For Your Winter Vacation
Call us bias, but the Yosemite-Bass Lake area is the first place you should consider visiting on your winter vacation. Home to beautiful hiking trails, 500+ giant sequoia trees, and countless activities, there are countless things to do here.
The Yosemite-Bass Lake area is also great for creating and upholding family traditions. From the annual Fourth of July celebration to the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Bass Lake, there are endless opportunities to create memories with your family.
Santa Barbara County
In addition to the several beaches located within Santa Barbara County, there are many treasures to be seen.
One unique treasure is the small Danish village known as Solvang. Recently dubbed “one of the Christmassy towns in America“, this historic village offers a relaxing, peaceful environment. And, with its world-famous bakeries, old-world European architecture, and wine from the 100+ wineries and vineyards nearby!).
We believe comfort is key, and that’s exactly what you’ll find when staying at The Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort. Located just minutes from Solvang (inland) and a short drive from the beautiful State Street, The Alisal is a comfortable place to retreat after a long day.
Keep in mind, you won’t find snow or extremely cold temperatures in this part of California. But if it’s the cold you’re wanting a break from, this is where you want to go.
Opportunities to Educate
We should also note there are countless educational opportunities to be had when visiting California. From learning the history of the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad to exploring the history of Yosemite’s most famous photographer, Ansel Adams, the opportunities to learn are everywhere. Especially in California.
