Nature’s ability to rejuvenate, invigorate and connect us to what really matters is priceless. In fact, spending time in nature is one of the greatest ways to reduce (possibly eliminate) anxiety, stress, and depression. And, when you merge nature and fitness, you have a beautiful and healthy match. This is what you will find in the Sierra Nevada Mountains — specifically at The Pines Resort.
Fitness in the Sierra Nevada
Known as the “land of many uses”, the Sierra National Forest is an ideal fitness destination for everyone including athletes, families, travelers, and fitness enthusiasts alike. The abundance of trees and natural resources provide serenity in an otherwise chaotic world, and the countless trails offer a natural (and much more fun) alternative to treadmills and stairs.
And, being located just outside of Yosemite National Park, staying at The Pines Resort affords you the opportunity to enjoy activities that aren’t allowed within Yosemite. Some of these activities include water sports (jet-skiing, canoeing, fishing, etc.), the option to explore multiple pet-friendly trails, and off-road activities year-round.

Hiking
While there are several trails in and around the Bass Lake-Yosemite area, Way of the Mono is one of the popular ones. Only two miles from The Pines Resort, Way of the Mono is a 1+ mile loop with a scenic vista– Mono Rock– overlooking Bass Lake. In addition to it being a fantastic photo spot, the trail is easy to navigate and perfect for hikers of all ages and experience levels.
Another beautiful trail to hike is Willow Creek in Bass Lake, CA. Located just 7-miles from The Pines Resort, the Willow Creek trail is positioned high above the actual creek. This trail provides you with an opportunity to see waterfalls as well as an opportunity to relax and play in the creek.

Off-Road Biking
If you’re an avid biker, you’ve likely heard of the famous 007 bike trail. This popular downhill trail is known throughout California for its flowing path and scenic mountain views, and nothing short of incredible. While there are plenty of trails that don’t exactly require anything extra, this one is an advanced trail that would typically require a higher-end mountain bike with front and rear shocks.
So, if you plan on checking this trail off your bucket list, do come prepared.
Some other popular locations and activities include:
-
- Goat Mountain
- Bass Lake Scenic Drive — great for driving or biking
- Beasore Road
- Tunnel View
- Lower Yosemite Falls
- Mariposa Grove
- Mirror Lake Trail
- Mist Trail
…as well as the following upcoming events.
Yoga
Fresh air, countless trees, the sounds of birds…. and you. Sounds like a dream, right? The combination of these make yoga in the Yosemite-Bass Lake area that much more enjoyable, and short sequences are absolutely doable in spaces throughout the area.
To gain some indoor studio time, you can always visit Yosemite Yoga Studio located in Oakhurst. Yoga in the a.m. is actually a great way to warm up before embarking on hikes through Yosemite!
