Based on a poll of 2,000 adults traveling this summer revealed a majority (57 percent) plan to attend a family or friend reunion. As it turns out, most of the respondents have not gathered with extended family in four years. The average U.S. travelers will journey nearly 80 miles to reunite with their favorite people and places. About one-third will venture more than 100 miles.
WHY HOST A REUNION?
Reunions allow friends and family to re-establish and refresh traditions. Majority of those attending a family reunion look forward to celebrating old traditions, while creating new ones. People are eager to re-connect with their families and spend a quality time with their friends.

THE GROUND WORK
Family and friends reunions are currently on the rise. A lot of people are planning getaways with their loved ones. As you can imagine, planning a reunion is not an easy or quick task. You are going to be trying to accommodate different schedules, budgets and expectations. Here is where we suggest you start:
- PLANNING – start planning as early as you can. Hotels, activities, and flights, especially in popular destinations fill up fast. Sometimes last minute getaways can also be an option, but in general 6-12 months in advance is a good goal.
- INCLUDE THE FAMILY – if you haven’t yet, talk to your family. See what do they think, who is interesting in participating. That is also time to discuss the budget, time of the year and destination.
- PICK THE DESTINATION – contact the hotel to arrange group block. Some hotels and resorts offer discounted rates for larger groups. Ask for the contract and inquire about dining and activities options in the area.
- BOOK THE ACCOMMODATION, FLIGHTS & RENT A CAR
- WORK ON ITINERARY – inquire if your destination offers concierge services. They will help you create a memorable experience for your group. Concierge can assist you with making reservations, or lead your family games.
- STAY CALM – your goal is to create pleasant memories for your loved ones. It is impossible to please everyone. All you can do is making sure everyone feels involved and informed. Talk to your family and friends. Be up front about the cost, any hesitations or concerns that may have arrise. Do not make any last-minute changes, unless everyone is on board. Plan as much as possible ahead, so once you arrive at your destination, all you need to worry about is spending quality time together and reconnecting.

BUSNARDO FAMILY REUNION
Busnardo family was one of our first post-pandemic family reunions that we had pleasure hosting at the Pines Resort. They have stayed with us in July. All 163 participants were able to enjoy all the amenities the resort and the lake can provide.
Most of the family reunited after the lockdown blues. They have traveled from Italy and all over the USA. Busnardos had their itinerary planed to almost every minute. They wanted to take advantage of their time together as well as experience the destination to the fulles. In 3 days, they were able to:
- host s’mores at the bonfires on the lake
- go golfing at a nearby course
- throw a dance reception in the conference room with dinner
- enjoy a variety of games: parachute game, water balloon toss game, volleyball, bocce, and disc golf, etc.
They also enjoyed having meals as a family. Their lunch was catered by Ducey’s on the Lake.
“We had 163 family members come to the reunion, because we love Bass Lake,” said Richard Rosenberg, one of the coordinators for the festivities. “The way the resort set everything up, the welcome, the support staff, everyone has been fantastic. Thank you, Pines Resort.”
Thank you to the Busnardo family, and to all the other family and friends reunions who chose The Pines Resort for vacation and celebration.
