A vacation in Bass Lake is a must for a happier, healthier you. After all, spending time in nature benefits our mental and physical health. And while a walk in the park sure beats staying indoors all day, there are added benefits to retreating from the city life and really connecting with nature. Doing so helps fight mental illnesses such as depression, increases our immune systems (important in fighting off colds and the flu), and encourages us to see the world beyond ourselves. So, why Bass Lake of all places?
Why You Should Vacation in Bass Lake This Year
In its early days, before it became the beautiful lake we know and love, Bass Lake was a lush meadow amidst hills and mountains that were covered in pine trees. No one knew it then, but those beautiful hills and mountains would later become a home away from home –a place filled with memories and traditions– for thousands of families who vacation in Bass Lake.
Yosemite
Equally rich in history and natural beauty, Yosemite National Park is known for its incredible trails and mesmerizing Giant Sequoia trees. But did you know there are over 800 sq. miles of land available for exploring? It’s true. The majority of visitors only see a fraction of the park, which means you have the opportunity to see the unseen. And, with a minimum of 90 species of mammals in Yosemite, you may just come across more than the obvious black bears, coyotes, and bobcats (although, seeing these beautiful creatures would be a treat, too!).
When you vacation in Bass Lake, you open yourself up to the magic of Yosemite as well as the comfort of the chalets at The Pines Resort. The close proximity between the two makes it easy for you to embark on hikes, biking, water and snow sports (depending on the season), and incredible farm-to-table dining.
Hiking, Biking
Located 1-mile from The Pines Resort, Angel Falls is one of many cascading waterfalls located along Willow Creek. The base of the falls that feed into Bass Lake is located about a mile west of The Pines Resort. Follow the trail up and see many other cool waterfalls and pools, rock formations, moss-covered trees, and vistas.
Another space to explore: Goat Mountain. This is the mountain that is located directly across the lake from The Pines Resort. It has 2 starting points, including one at Forks Campground and one at Spring Cove Campground., and the trail is 4+ miles round-trip with a gain of 1,700+ ft.
The Way of the Mono trail is another, albeit very short 1 + mile loop with a scenic vista called Mono Rock, which overlooks Bass Lake. This is a great photo spot, and the very easy trail is perfect for hikers of all ages and experience levels.

Embrace Nature
Having the opportunity to play outdoors is a gift in and of itself. But taking that opportunity to not only see but embrace the sunset gives new meaning to life. In fact, studies have shown there are real benefits to admiring the sunset. This includes an improvement in emotional well-being and satisfaction with life, as well as a greater concern for others.
However, you don’t have to be on vacation in Bass Lake to enjoy these benefits. You will experience the benefits of admiring the sunset regardless of where you are. However, the urge to do so tends to occur naturally here in Bass Lake.
Mental Health Benefits
One of the simple, yet effective ways to be proactive in nourishing your mental health is to spend time in nature. When in nature, you are disconnected from social media, emails, phone calls, and texts. This leaves you open to a level of happiness that can only come from being surrounded by earth’s beauty.
Additionally, this allows you to practice being present; it allows the mind to take a big, necessary break from all the noise. Truthfully, even when we are silently scrolling through popular social media feeds, we are absorbing noise. Our minds are on and processing what we’re seeing, and it takes a toll on our mental and physical health.
Bonding Time
Bonds will be strengthened during your visit to the Yosemite-Bass Lake area. There is something about sharing laughs over food and exploring trails together that adds a layer of depth to relationships. These joyous moments on or alongside the lake stay with us for the rest of our lives.
These are some of the most popular reasons to visit Bass Lake. But that doesn’t mean they’re the only reasons.
Bass Lake is a place of endless opportunity. It offers the opportunity to explore popular hikes and roads, discover new ones, and create memories that will last a lifetime. A vacation in Bass Lake is more than a vacation– it’s an opportunity to (re)discover the simple things that bring joy.
